interview

August 22nd, 2006 by jeaniebeh in Uncategorized · No Comments

AsiaOne is a free-access, one-stop information mall which serves users’ news, business and lifestyle needs. Besides accessing news and information from Singapore Press Holdings’ (SPH) suite of newspapers, AsiaOne users can engage in special interest sites which cover finance, motoring, technology, health and various lifestyle topics.

Therefore, I had sent an email to request for an email interview with the editorial department of AsiaOne: http://www.asiaone.com

I’ll wait for their reply and update on my blog. Keep my fingers crossed that it’ll be good news.

convergence and convergent journalism

i googled on the keywords.. “convergence and convergent journalism”

i found a list of URLs.. which might be useful and/or relevant to include for the development of a list of sites. there’s interviews/transcripts, news articles, reviews, weblogs, research papers etc.

most of the websites (URLs listed above) are related to convergent journalism particularly in Australia. i couldn’t really get much information on journalism in Singapore as the Government has tight control over the media coverage in the country.

welcome to convergence culture

July 31st, 2006 by jeaniebeh in Uncategorized · No Comments

I read through henry jenkins article on welcome to convergence culture. He had my sympathy as I went through a similar experience when I was in Singapore for my semester break. But I wondered if I belong to the same old-fashioned category as him. Reckon I dread the swift changes in IT and communications.

Anyway, I was mocked at by the sales assistant when I asked for a certain nokia model and was told that that model is obsolete. The sales assistant went into details like no one wants a mobile phone without functions like: camera, video recorder, mp3 player, fm radio blar blar blar. I was so embrassed. I wished the floor would open up and swallow me. I just wanted a mobile phone to make calls and text messages.

I have a digital camera. Why would I need one in the mobile phone. Isn’t it mp3 players are in trend currently. ipods are dominating the market. Why would I need a mp3 player in the mobile phone. I can’t understand.

I thought of the question my friend asked me a couple of months ago. “Why do people want to buy a 20GB mp3 player? Can they really listen to all the songs?” Well, I replied that it might be for storage (USB function). She shook her head and said “It’s nice to have a 20GB mp3 player, it’s nice to show off.”
